ABOUT
White Walls is an app developed for art enthusiasts to discover personalized art content and explore the Berlin art scene.
THE PROBLEM
Users struggle to efficiently explore and stay updated on artists, art movements, and art events locally, leading to missed opportunities for discovery and connection.
THE SOLUTION
To develop a platform for art enthusiasts which provides them with art content and information about art events happening in their area.

Survey Respondents
To better understand our users (26-35 years old, Berlin-based), we researched their behaviors, preferences, and challenges related to discovering and engaging with art. This includes: motivations, current methods, social aspects and role of technology.
93 %
Engage with art through technology
81 %
Engage with art through galleries and museums
As much as I love finding new art on social media, I often feel like I'm missing out on the full story.
I feel like personalised recommendations are sometimes hindering my exploration of new things.
I often miss out on local events, it's so hard to stay informed about what's happening nearby.
USER STORY
As an art enthusiast, I want to use my free time wisely to learn the stories behind artworks, discover new artists, and receive recommendations for art-related places locally, so that I can enhance my understanding and appreciation of art.
IDEA
As our users engage with art through technology & by attending events, our app is a blend of both: digital art discovery and tangible art experiences.
White Walls enables art enthusiasts to discover personalized art content and explore the Berlin art scene.
It encourages engagement by allowing users to check-in at art events, rewarding them with a free museum ticket after six visits.

IMPROVEMENTS
Added onboarding screens to provide a clear introduction and guide users through the app’s main features. Implemented check-in information modules throughout the app for better guidance.
Users found it difficult to locate the tickets they won.
No direct access to the Check-in.
Added a "Your Tickets" section to the homepage for easy access and visibility.
Included Check-in in the navigation bar for better accessibility.
ONBOARDING
The app's onboarding flow informs users about its basic functionalities and includes a quiz designed to personalize the app's content to individual preferences.
EXPLORING
On the home page, users can view the curated Daily Art Pick, while the Explore tab offers a mix of fresh, new art as well as pieces related to their preferences for a personalized and diverse art experience.
EVENTS
In the Events tab, users can discover local events related to their preferences. Once at the venue, they can check in directly by clicking the QR code icon in the bottom navigation.
REWARDING
Users can redeem free museum tickets they've earned through check-ins directly in the app's shop. This allows them to enjoy the benefits of their engagement and explore more cultural experiences.
TAKEWAYS & LEARNINGS
CHALLENGE OF LEADING A PROJECT
This was my first time leading a project, and at the start, I struggled with balancing the need to consider the team’s voices while being decisive. This experience taught me the importance of assertive leadership in driving progress and earning the team’s confidence.
UNDERSTANDING PROBLEMS BEFORE SOLUTIONS
Initially, my strong preconceived ideas hindered my ability to see the big picture and fully analyze the problem. This project taught me the value of thoroughly understanding user needs and avoiding premature solutions to develop more effective and user-centered designs.
